I have shown earlier (and in many writings) that Christ came the first time of the tribe of Judah, but He comes the second time as the Heir of Joseph with His robe dipped in blood (Revelation 19:13; Genesis 37:31). Having received the Birthright, Joseph obtained a double portion of tribes (Ephraim and Manasseh). Those tribes were expelled from the old land some centuries later on account of their sin, leaving only the tribe of Judah (2 Kings 17:18).
Their genealogical records were lost. As a result, most people today cannot trace their biological ancestry to Joseph, except perhaps in generalities—which are insufficient for legal purposes. Even if they could prove their descent from Joseph, this would not prove that they held the right to rule, for this right was passed down to a single person in each generation. The rest of Joseph’s descendants only had access to the blessings of the Birthright if they were united with the single Birthright holder.
When Christ comes the second time, the Birthright is given to Him. Only those who are in union with Him and are part of His Body are co-heirs with Him of the Birthright.
The same legal process was true in Christ’s first coming, relative to Judah and Levi. Only those who were part of the Body of Christ as the King of Judah have had Dominion rights in the past 2,000 years. This is the meaning of Paul’s legal statement in Romans 2:28, 29, showing that outward circumcision is a sign of who is NOT a Judean, while circumcision of the heart is a sign of who IS a Judean.
In other words, one cannot depend on one’s Judean genealogy to be a Judean in the eyes of God. One must be in union with the rightful Heir to the throne to be a Judean, legally speaking. To be a Judean (or “Jew”) in the eyes of the law is to be recognized by God Himself as a genuine believer in union with Christ. This gives a man legal standing and legal citizenship in the Kingdom of Christ.
This is why John, who understood the law, could assert so emphatically in Revelation 2:9 about the Jews in his day: “the blasphemy by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.” Those are very strong words, but they reflect the legal standing of those Jews who had rejected King Jesus. Their genealogy could not be used to demand legal citizenship in the Kingdom of God, nor did they enjoy any legal rights given to the tribe of Judah.
The priests of that day misused their position and were likewise replaced by the Melchizedek priestly Order, which actually had predated the birth of Levi himself. Jesus Christ was the High Priest of this Order, a position He could hold though He was not of Levi, because the Melchizedek Order was never based on genealogy (Hebrews 7:3).
Since the Kingdom of God is also a kingdom of priests who will “reign upon the earth” (Revelation 5:10; 20:6), it is important to understand that these priests are not of the Levitical Order but of Melchizedek. They are priests under the High Priest of the Order of Melchizedek, Jesus Christ.
So whether we speak of Judah, Levi, or Joseph, we see a huge change as we pass from the Old Covenant to the New. The most radical (and controversial) change is in passing from an order that maintains genealogical requirements to an order that transcends genealogy, demanding a spiritual relationship through a legal process.
When we consider Joseph and the heirs of the Birthright, we see that in the sovereign plan of God He chose to allow their genealogical records to be destroyed, making it impossible for anyone to prove legally that he is descended from Joseph. Fortunately, one does not need to prove this any longer, for when Christ comes the second time, He is proven to be the Heir of the Birthright. So we only need to be a son of Jesus Christ to be a co-heir with Him.
How does one do that? How can Jesus have children? Jesus had no physical children in His first appearance. I believe that this is why He remained unmarried, though many gnostic Merovingians today are claiming physical descent from Him through His supposed wife, Mary Magdalene. Many are still thinking carnally, hoping to convince others of their genealogical credentials, so that the nations will crown them kings of the earth. But these are counterfeits and will be disappointed in the end.
The Law of Sonship through Adoption
The law sets forth the path toward Sonship in Deuteronomy 25:5-10. It says that if a man dies childless, his brother was to beget children on his behalf. We are given an example of this in the book of Ruth, where Elimelech and his two sons died, leaving no heir for their property near Bethlehem. Naomi was left as the widow of Elimelech, and she was past child-bearing age.
Ruth, a widow of one of the sons of Elimelech and Naomi, appealed to the Law of Sonship and married Boaz. Hence, when their son was born, we read in Ruth 4:17, “a son has been born to Naomi.” The son was physically born to Ruth, but legally that son was “born to Naomi.”
This shows a distinction between the law and biology. One can have legal status that goes beyond biology. In this case the law recognized Obed as a son of Naomi, even though Ruth was his actual mother.
This is a spiritual law, for as Paul says, “the law is spiritual” (Romans 7:14). Though we do not normally practice the physical side of this law today, we must do so in the realm of the spirit. Jesus died childless. Yet He was not ashamed to call us “brethren” (Hebrews 2:11). As His younger brothers, we have a legal obligation to raise up children on behalf of our older Brother, so that He does not lose His inheritance in the earth.
How do we do that? There is no way to do this physically. But if we know the spiritual process, it is not difficult. It is by simple faith. We are begotten and impregnated by the Spirit through the seed of the Word, that is, the gospel (1 Corinthians 4:15, KJV). A New Creation Man is then conceived in our souls (the woman), and this holy seed has a heavenly Father and an earthly mother. In Colossians 1:27 Paul calls it “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” It is both a Son of God and a Son of Man.
This holy spiritual seed is growing and maturing within us, and when it is brought to full birth through the revelation of the feast of Tabernacles, it will be manifested as a Son. It is not only the manifestation of the DNA of God as its Father, but it is also YOU, for you are its mother and this holy seed is what you are becoming. The combination of heaven and earth is what makes it “Christ,” even as we see with Jesus Christ Himself.
It is clear, then, that the Sons of God who are manifested at the second coming of Christ are NOT those who are descended from the first Adam but the last Adam, Jesus Christ. Those who depend upon their fleshly descent from Adam will be disappointed. The fleshly genealogical requirement ended with the first coming of Christ. Jesus was the only One who qualified, and even this was not due to His Adamic descent but to the miraculous begetting by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18). Mary’s role was to make Him the Son of Man (of Adam, Judah, and David); the Holy Spirit’s role was to make Him the Son of God.
We too are begotten in the same spiritual manner by the Holy Spirit, and only that holy seed in us can possibly qualify as a Son of God.
How to Inherit the Birthright
This brings us back to our main topic. How can we inherit the Birthright?
It is the same legal process in both comings of Christ. When Christ came of Judah, we were all required to accept Him as King and to recognize His sacrifice on the cross that paid for our sins. Those who hear and believe this gospel are impregnated by the Spirit in a spiritual process which begins a time of growth and maturation.
But Sonship requires more than conception. What is conception without birthing? Unfortunately, many have conceived Christ, but their Christ embryo has been fed mostly spiritual junk food that is not helpful in bringing that embryo to the place where it can be born. Furthermore, some people abort Christ in them, ending the process altogether.
To be begotten by our Heavenly Father is a “Judah” work. To be brought to full birth is a “Joseph” work. Jesus Christ did His first work at the cross on Passover; He does the second work at Tabernacles. In between the two stands Pentecost, the feast which teaches us obedience, causes us to grow, and prepares us for the feast of Tabernacles, where we may become the manifested Sons of God.
When the Sons of God are brought to birth on the first day of Tabernacles and then presented to the Father on the eighth day of the feast, the Father will formally recognize them as His Sons and present them to the world as “manifested” Sons. Their begetting through Judah (Passover) will be superseded by their birth through Joseph (Tabernacles).
Recall that Judah was to rule “until Shiloh comes.” Judah’s calling was temporary, because in the end all the tribes were to bow to Joseph (Genesis 37:9). In the end, Joseph was to rule, and even Judah would have to bow to him. This prophesied of the time of the end, when the first coming of Christ is superseded by His second coming, and Jesus’ calling as the King of Judah is swallowed up by His greater calling as Joseph, the Heir of all of the scattered parts of the Birthright.
The Saints of the Most High
This brings us to our final question: Who are the saints who will receive the dominion mandate at the end of the final beast’s rule? The answer lies in the prophetic history of the dominion mandate. We saw how this dominion mandate was given to Judah temporarily, while the priesthood was given to Levi. At that time, Joseph received the rest of the Birthright—the assets of the Kingdom, minus the scepter and priesthood. In His first coming, Christ qualified as the Inheritor of the Scepter of Judah and the priesthood of Levi. In His second coming, Christ comes as the Heir of Joseph as well, uniting finally the full provision and power of the Birthright as it was at the beginning.
We have opportunity to be co-heirs with Him, if we are indeed His Sons. If we follow the clear path outlined in Scripture, then Christ in you—Son of God and Son of Man—will be brought to birth. These are the “saints of the Most High” who will rule the earth as the legally-adopted Sons of God.
Will there be fleshly authorities as well? Yes, of course. Even if they are not the adopted sons of the Creator Himself, they will be much like us today—believers who are future overcomers. Revelation 21:24-27 describes these earthly kings, speaking of the New Jerusalem, saying,
24 And the nations shall walk by its light, and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory into it. 25 And in the daytime (for there shall be no night there) its gates shall never be closed; 26 and they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it, 27 and nothing unclean and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Nothing unclean can enter the city, but yet these kings “bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.” That means these kings are “clean,” and their names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. In other words, they are believers in Christ and remain loyal to Him. The overcomers, having spiritual authority “in Christ,” will have the highest authority in the earth and will act as counselors and teachers.
Even as Joseph himself was second only to Pharaoh, so also will the Joseph company be second only to their Heavenly Father.
