In Deuteronomy 28 Moses speaks first about the blessings of God that will come upon a nation that is ruled by Christ and adopts laws consistent with His character. He then turns to the curses that will come upon a nation that is in disobedience—especially nations that agreed to follow His laws and then later departed from them.
Psalm 33:12 says,
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord [Yahweh], the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.
This summarizes what Moses says in Deuteronomy 28:1-14. He begins by saying,
1 Now it shall be, if you will diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
This national promise of exaltation among the nations is conditional upon obedience to the laws of God. We are given very few extended examples of this in history, because human nature is such that even the most well-intentioned generation must give way to the next generation that is never as diligent in serving God. Israel itself is the prime example of this. After seeing in the book of Joshua how God established the nation in Canaan and exalted them over the Canaanite nations, the book of Judges shows how the next generation degenerated into disobedience.
We have far more examples of nations degenerating than those who are truly blessed. It seems that no nation, including Israel, has ever followed the laws of God for more than a single generation. There were occasional revivals that put new life into the nation for a season, but in the end they all went into captivity according to the curses of the law.
The foremost truth that stands out in all of this is the fact that a “chosen” nation is held more accountable before God than other nations, for they are made liable for all of the revelation that they have received. God’s treatment of them is conditional upon their obedience. Being “chosen” does not give anyone a license to sin.
One may argue that being “chosen” means that God is their Father, and that even disobedient children are still His children. That is true, but we must understand the full picture. First, His disobedient children are chastised and disciplined. We see this in the last section of Deuteronomy 28, where the curses of the law come upon the disobedient nation. We see it also in Psalm 94:12,
12 Blessed is the man whom Thou dost chasten, O Lord, and dost teach out of Thy law.
Again, Hebrews 12:5, 6 says,
5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him; 6 for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.”
Sons have an advantage over others, because they are disciplined by the law while they are young. Others who have no such discipline may find themselves judged by an impartial and impersonal Judge in the Divine Court, rather than by a Father. But if a son does not learn righteousness while he is young, he too will be treated as any other criminal when he becomes lawless and must stand before the Judge.
The fact that Israel was a “son” (Exodus 4:22; Hosea 11:1) did not exempt him from judgment. The Old Covenant was conditional upon their obedience, and when they persisted in disobedience, God eventually cast them out of the land and sent them into captivity under foreign nations that did not know God.
Yet being a son also meant that God was ultimately responsible to bring him to the place of spiritual maturity. This is being accomplished through the New Covenant, where God takes the responsibility upon Himself to change the hearts of men from the inside by His Spirit. This method will succeed, not only with a few, but with all Israel and all mankind with them. In the end, not only is He able to save all Israel and bring them into His Kingdom, but He has also vowed to fill the whole earth with His glory (Numbers 14:21).
Meanwhile, however, while we are yet spiritually immature, we are disciplined according to the provision of the law, for though we, as individuals, are heirs of all things, we are no different from other servants and slaves (Galatians 4:1, 2). God’s blessings are conditional upon our obedience. And when we look at nations such as America, which was founded by men who entered into covenant with God, we can see how God prospered the nation at the beginning, but then brought us into a secret captivity to “Mystery Babylon” after later generations persisted in sin for many years.
So when we study the blessings for obedience and the curses for disobedience, we need not look only to Israel’s example in Scripture. We have our own examples staring us in the face, if we have eyes to see it. America as a Christian Republic was founded in 1789, and ceased to exist in 1860 when the representatives of the southern states abandoned the government without setting a date for their return. After the war between the states, conducted by Executive Order, a new government was established in 1871, which used the same name but spelled it differently: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The use of all capital letters revealed its legal status as a corporation and differentiated it from the original united States of America.
This new corporate government took over the functions of the original government, and without realizing it, men began to vote for representatives of the corporation state rather than the original Christian Republic. This corporation eventually established the Federal Reserve Bank in 1913, which privatized the creation of money and put tremendous power into the hands of the most prominent banking families of America and Europe.
The corporation government went broke and went into bankruptcy in 1933, and since that time the bankers have consolidated their power. Their primary concern was to secularize the people and to expel God from the corporation, because when they took over the Christian Republic, God was everywhere in government and education. This was unacceptable to the top bankers, who were largely Satanists masquerading as Jews.
The economic prosperity of Mystery Babylon tended to hide the captivity from the majority of the people. But little by little the prosperity was removed. It used to be that a man could support his family, but now most families require two incomes. The value of money was deflated, causing prices to rise faster than incomes. Government figures were falsified in order to hide the economic facts. The poor got poorer, and the rich got richer.
After abortion was legalized in 1973 the Church began to awaken, but by then it was too late. We were fully entrenched in our captivity, and God had empowered the bankers to judge the Church until Christians repented of their lawlessness. The problem was that the Church has traditionally thought of itself as righteous. Many claimed the right to sin, on the grounds that the law had been abolished by Christ. Hence, many Christians stopped studying the law, and so they do not know what God expects of them or how to repent.
Most can only remember with nostalgia the old days before the captivity. They think that if we could go back to those times, then everything would be good, and America could once again be a Christian Republic. They do not realize that those “good old days” were the very reason for the present captivity. America’s corruption did not begin with Mystery Babylon. Our Babylonian captivity is the result of sin, not its first cause.
As we will see in the course of Moses’ speech, the judgment of God says in Deuteronomy 28:64, “you shall serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known.” In other words, because our fathers violated the law, God vowed to give us the evil desire of our heart, causing us to serve other gods. In this way we would learn how oppressive are those other gods.
Mystery Babylon, then, was raised up by God to show us what a secular government looks like. It is there to show us the results of disobedience, or lawlessness. We are given endless wars and the murder of millions of babies in the womb. If this were to continue, no flesh would be saved. But thank God, He has not lost His power. Babylon is only a tool of judgment in God’s hand.
The rulers of Babylon think that they can remain in power indefinitely if they can just induce the people to continue in sin. That is why government policy has been to legalize immorality of all kinds. First the government refused to prosecute adultery, and it legalized fornication as long as no money exchanged hands. Prostitution was reduced to an economic crime, rather than a moral issue. The Sexual Revolution of the 1960’s brought about the age of irresponsibility, followed by the age of non-responsibility. Out of this came the legalization of abortion, which was primarily designed to relieve people of the responsibility for their immoral behavior.
Then homosexual behavior became legal, and a few years ago the final push began to make it an accepted part of American culture. Next will be bestiality, and then they will begin lowering the age of acceptable immorality until child pornography and child abuse will be fully legal and acceptable in American culture. When they run out of ways to degrade humanity, they will then find a way to kill them off on the grounds that there are too many people on earth.
All of this is a natural degenerative flow of history that is prophesied in the curses of the law for disobedience. If anyone thinks that the law has been set aside, it is because they do not see how Deuteronomy 28 is being fulfilled before our eyes today. If the law were put away, then why is Deuteronomy 28 being fulfilled? Why has God held us accountable for our sin throughout all of history? We may claim that the judgments of the law have been suspended, but that does not make it so. We cannot change history by willing it out of existence. The greatest argument for the law of God is history itself.
The history of Israel is the history of America and also the Church. The way to turn it around is not to condemn the world for its immorality. The way to turn it around is not to get more people saved and into the lawless church. God does not hold the world responsible for our captivity. God holds the church responsible. It is always “if My people… will turn from their wicked ways” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
The Church is King Saul today. The Church was crowned on Pentecost in Acts 2. The Church has had the authority from God to make the difference. The problem is that the Church failed to bring righteousness to the earth in its allotted time. It is the lawlessness of the Church that has brought about this present captivity. Yet even as King Saul died without repenting of his rebellion against God, preferring even to consult with the witch of Endor (1 Samuel 28:7), so also has the Pentecostal Age ended (1993) without genuine repentance in the Church.
And so God has raised up the overcomers, as the House of David, to succeed where the Church has failed. It is now assured that Mystery Babylon will fall, on account of the intercession of the overcomers since 1993. They have repented on behalf of the Church, and they have the authority to do so, now that the transfer of authority is complete from “Saul” to “David.”
The warfare against Babylon began in 1993 and was completed in 2006. The monetary power of Mystery Babylon then began to collapse, and God has been raising up the Kings of the East (Revelation 16:12) to overthrow the Babylonian bankers of the West. The Kings of the East are doing God’s work, even as King Cyrus of Persia did all that God told him to do (Isaiah 44:28) without realizing it.
We are about to enter a whole new era in the history of the Kingdom of God. As Mystery Babylon falls, we have no need to fear, for God is working to set us free. The church was brought into judgment a century ago. We are now at the end of that captivity, and the present judgment is directed against Mystery Babylon in order to set the earth free. We are about to enter the most glorious time in world history as the Spirit is poured out upon all flesh. As a result, the blessings of the law are soon to be poured out.
Always walk in faith, never in fear.
