Here is a 25-minute video of the history of the Bank of Canada Act of 1934 which established that the Canadian Government has the right to create its own money. As a result, Canada's national debt was only $18 billion in 1974. But then the government was pressured by the big private banks and the BIS to stop competing with them. Canada started borrowing that which it could have created for itself free of charge. The national debt skyrocketed immediately.
