Some falsehoods have only minor harmful effects. Most of them are limited to the individual, such as when we deceive ourselves and do not see the world as it really is. But there are a few falsehoods that have the potential to kill millions of people. These are the most crucial issues, whether people realize it or not.
The above link tells us how the Israeli state has hundreds of nuclear weapons, while the Iranians have none. Yet Iran is said to be the big problem. Why? Because the Israelis don't like competition as the bully of the neighborhood. They are afraid of ANYONE ELSE getting nuclear weapons, because those nations would no longer have to submit to Israeli threats.
Hence, we once again establish a double standard--one for the Israelis and one for the Iranians. The Israelis are allowed to have nuclear weapons because they are seen as "friends." The Iranians are denied them, because they are "enemies." It has nothing to do with actual justice between nations. It is simply a matter of the desire for some nations to dominate others. It is part of the "empire" mentality.
The Lie Behind It
If we trace it back far enough, we find that the real reason America supports the Israeli state is because many Jews and many Christians living here believe that the Jews are God's Chosen People. This is what has underpinned America's foreign policy in the Mideast for the past century. There are many Jews in Europe, too, but because the Evangelical, Pentecostal, and Fundamentalists are so scarce over there, support for Zionism is more limited. Why? Because, while they support human rights for all--including Jews--they do not think that one group is more human than others.
The opposite is true among Evangelicals, Pentecostals, and Fundamentalists in America. Having been raised in this, I think I can speak with a certain amount of authority in this matter. I clearly remember how I was raised, and while many might try to deny the "racist" label, I can testify by personal experience that I was raised as a racist who believed that Jews were a superior race. And because God had "chosen" them--whether they were Christians or not, based purely upon their supposed superior genetics--we "gentiles" were obligated by God Himself to give them everything they asked for, and to protect them with our very lives.
This is the attitude that demands that our government support the Zionist state at all costs, even if it means wiping out billions of people by nuclear war. All non-Jews are, after all, secondary in importance to God, and are therefore expendable.
Once I became an adult and began to learn from sources other than my parents and church, it was not long before I realized that my viewpoint needed some serious alteration. The first thing that shook my foundations was when I learned that the Jews were not the biblical Israelites. I discovered that I had made that assumption without comprehending the clear biblical distinction between Judah and Israel. I discovered that each nation had its own distinct calling and its own set of prophecies to fulfill.
For example, in Jeremiah 18:1-10, we see a prophecy for the House of Israel, which, by Jeremiah's time, had already been deported to Assyria, never to return to the old land. The prophet was shown that God would rebuild the House of Israel, even as a potter is able to rebuild a faulty clay pot. All he has to do is to beat it down and then put it back on the wheel.
Then in verse 11, the prophet begins a longer revelation about the House of Judah and Jerusalem. He gives a lengthy explanation to let us know WHY God was going to destroy that nation completely. In verse 23, the prophecy concludes: "... Do not forgive their iniquity or blot out their sin from Thy sight. But may they be overthrown before Thee; deal with them in the time of Thine anger!"
Then immediately, the prophet was told to take some of the elders of Jerusalem as witnesses, and go to the valley of Ben-Hinnom. There he was to smash an old clay pot in the city dump. It represented Judah and Jerusalem. It was NOT a pot made of wet, pliable clay. It could not be put back on the wheel and remade into another vessel. Note the huge contrast between Judah's fate and Israel's fate.
After speaking the Word of the Lord, Jeremiah was told in verses 10 and 11,
10 Then you are to break the jar in the sight of the men who accompany you 11 and say to them, "Thus says the Lord of hosts: Just so shall I break this people and this city, even as one breaks a potter's vessel which cannot again be repaired..."
We search in vain for any sign of hope or comfort in this chapter. Israel was to be rebuilt; Judah was to be broken in such a way that "this people and this city" would never again be repaired.
Those who taught me in my early church life did not understand this. I do not recall anyone ever reading this to me. It is as if the passage never existed, even though it is in everyone's Bible, regardless of the version or translation. Nor would it have made any sense to us anyway, because we did not understand the difference between Israel and Judah. Thinking them to be the same thing, we thought that the so-called state of "Israel" was the biblical Israel that was fulfilling the wet clay prophecy of Jeremiah 18:1-10. It was inconceivable to us that it would actually be the fulfillment of the hardened, clay jar of Jeremiah 19.
Although "Jew" is simply a contraction for "Judah," many Christians hear "Jew" but think "Israel." This assumption has taken such a grip on the minds of so many Christians, and this is what drives our foreign policy today. This is what is driving us to yet another costly and deadly war in the Mideast.
Ironically, it is this very blindness that will bring about the fulfillment of Jeremiah's prophecy. Recently we saw on video John Hagee praying with Benny Hinn for this war to happen as soon as possible. In the presidential debates, we see most Republican presidential candidates (except for Ron Paul) stating their intent to start a war with Iran. They are simply bowing to the wishes of their core constituency--the Christians. This is the way to ensure more votes!
Yes, I do believe we will see such a war, for it was prophesied a long time ago. For most Christians the outcome will be unexpectedly disastrous. Likewise for the Israelis. Most are unaware of what Scripture has to say. Their false assumptions are actually pushing America into instigating the destruction of Jerusalem and the entire Israeli state.
When that happens, Christians around the world will be forced to recognize the truth. This will mark the start of a huge repentance (change of mind). They will be totally undone. It will then be our job, not to condemn them, but to teach them the right way and assist them in knowing the mind of God in all of this.
There are some Christian leaders, of course, who have known the truth all along, but who refuse to teach it. They betray Christians in order to keep the money coming to their little kingdoms. God will deal with them in His own time. But the majority are blind men waiting for the healing touch of Jesus.
