The fact that there were precisely 42 young men in 2 Kings 2:24 suggests that this is a prophetic story, because 42 is a highly-charged prophetic number. In fact, it normally indicates a period of TIME.
Rev. 13:5 speaks of "forty-two months" as the equivalent of 1,260 days (30 x 42). This, in turn, is the New Testament equivalent to Daniel 7:25, "a time, and times, and the dividing of time." If you compare Dan. 7 with Rev. 13, you see that they speak of the same "beast." Hence, Daniel's "time" is interpreted by John in the book of Revelation as being 360 days--or a prophetic year.
In long-term prophecy, this is also seen as 360 YEARS, by the principle of "a day for a year" (Ez. 4:6).
The number 42 is built upon the more foundational concept of the Time of Jacob's Trouble (2 x 21 years), mentioned in Jer. 30:7. The word "trouble" (tsarah) is better translated "distress," and this is how the NASB renders it.
Jacob had two times of trouble, each 21 years long. The first time was spent primarily as a slave/servant of his uncle Laban. Jacob left home in the year 2185 from Adam, when he was 77 years old. It was the first year of the 313th sabbath cycle since Adam. (See Secrets of Time.)
Twenty years later was the year 2205, the 315th sabbath from Adam. At the end of that sabbath cycle would be the year of Jubilee--the 45th Jubilee from Adam. That 45th Jubilee was the 21st year of Jacob's trouble, ending with his revisit to Bethel (Gen. 35:1). When God told him to return to Bethel, he said in verse 3,
"And let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress [tsarah], and has been with me wherever I have gone."
Obviously, Jeremiah was quoting Gen. 35:1 in regard to Jacob's time of "distress." Jacob had worked for Laban three sabbath cycles, and he left in a sabbath year. Then he spent the Jubilee year in Bethel, the "House of God." All of this is highly prophetic, of course, but it only portrays the first of two times that Jacob was in "distress."
The second time began just a few years later when Joseph was separated from his brethren and sold as a slave to Egypt. Joseph was born in 2199 and was just six or seven years old when his father went to Bethel. Ten years later, at the age of 17 he had two dreams which infuriated his brothers (Gen. 37:2). Soon after that, they found opportunity to get rid of him. The book of Jasher 44:14 tells us that he was 18 when he was sold to Potiphar. Jacob did not see his son again for 21 years, when Joseph was 39.
The book of Jasher refers often to Jacob's "trouble" (or distress).
"Arouse now and see how bitter is my trouble for thee, my son" (43:28).
"And all the sons of Jacob seeing their father's trouble, they repented of what they had done and they also wept bitterly" (43:31).
"And the sons of the Jacob saw their father's trouble" (43:33).
So Jacob experienced two periods of trouble, each 21 years in length. The total is 42, and this established a prophetic pattern for the book of Daniel and also for Revelation. The nation of Israel itself then experienced two times of trouble, each 21 x 10 years in length, as I showed in Secrets of Time. But on the grandest scale of all, the 21 years of Jacob himself has turned into 21 x 120, or 210 x 12, which equals 2,520 years (also 2 x 1260).
This is the time cycle that we can now see, since we are at the end of the age. From the fall of Samaria, Israel's capital city, in 721 B.C., it is 2,520 years to the year 1800, when Washington D.C. was built and became our nation's capital. The 2,520 years accounts for 12 periods of 210 years, one for each land-owning tribe of Israel, but if one accounts for the tribe of Levi as well, we must add another 210-year cycle, which brings us to the year 2010 A.D.
So the significance of this time period cannot be overestimated, nor can its modern application be separated from something very important that is about to happen in Washington D.C.
When we study the number 390 as well (Ez. 4:5), we see that 6 x 390 years from 721 B.C. brings us to the year 1620, the date of the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock. The final seventh 390-year period brings us to the year 2010 as well. The convergence of these two major endpoints in the year 2010 makes me sit up and take notice that something of extreme prophetic importance is about to occur, involving the political situation in Washington D.C.
All of this, however, is just background material that helps us understand the 42 bears in the story of Elisha. It is a prophetic reference to TIME, not only in long-term prophecy, but also in the short term. In the short term, as we prayed about this in Nebraska, we learned that it had specific reference to the 42-day period from May 10 to June 21.
May 10 was the day that the Salt Company decreed healing for Jericho according to 2 Kings 2:19-22. That decree concluded the second miracle-sign of Elisha and immediately began the countdown toward the next sign--the two bears. We do not yet know what should be done on June 21, or if we will see some newsworthy event on that day, but it is our next major watch date.
After receiving the revelation of this 42-day period ending June 21, we noticed that this was also 76 days after April 6.
Every year we have watched how God establishes two periods of cleansing (76 days) at the start of each prophetic year. The prophetic year begins shortly after the feast of Tabernacles, which is the culmination of the previous prophetic year. In the current time, the 76-day cycles began on Nov. 5, 2008 with the election of President Obama of Illinois, marked also by the Illinois lottery drawing #666.
That 76-day period ended on January 20, 2009 with Obama's inauguration as President. The second 76-day period ended April 6 and was marked by the 6.3 Richter earthquake in Aquila, Italy (near Rome). Rome sits on the 42nd parallel on the knee of the harlot's leg. (Check the map.) Washington D.C. was built upon land that was originally known as "Rome" on the title deed dated June 5, 1663 in the name of "Francis Pope" and bounded by the inlet called "Tiber." The Tiber River flows through Rome in Italy as well.
Furthermore, when Washington D.C. was later surveyed and sectioned, we find that the White House sat on Section #666. (The numbering of the sections began with Jones Point at the south end.) So now we see the following:
Nov. 5 to Jan. 20 = 76 days
Jan. 20 to April 6 = 76 days
April 6 to June 21 = 76 days
Strangely enough, we seem to have a third witness this year, where normally we see only two periods of 76 days. The reason for this is yet unclear, although the law does allow two or three witnesses (Deut. 19:15) to establish truth by law. The dates themselves are thus watch dates, because they give us hints about what God is intending to do in any given prophetic year, culminating at the feast of Tabernacles.
So far we see a President from the Land of Lincoln now in the White House, elected in conjunction with the lottery #666, and now living in section #666 of D.C. There appears to be a political earthquake coming to our American "Rome." Just how that will play out is yet unclear, but this prophetic year will end October 10, 2009, which is near the beginning of 2010 by the Hebrew calendar.
No doubt we will receive more revelation and see more events in the months ahead, which will give us greater understanding. So stay tuned, be watchful, and pray much.
