Education isn't what it used to be, but back in the Middle Ages, when I was in school, we were taught that the American form of government consisted of three branches. It was meant to be a division of power, so as not to concentrate all power into the hands of a single individual.
These branches were the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judicial.
But that was then, and this is now.
The new divisions of power are: Intelligence, Banks, and Media. These branches of government have not taken away the previous branches--they have simply put the others under their supervision/authority. I am not referring to the countless individuals among them, but rather to the top echelons--the directors of intelligence, the money powers, and the editors who restrict their employees.
The Intelligence organizations control the Executive, unless the President happens to be one of the insiders of the Intelligence organization (such as ex-President Bush, Sr.). The point is that the President only knows what the Intelligence director decides to tell him. Since his decisions are based upon that intelligence, the president can be manipulated into doing most anything, based upon what he is told. Much like a computer. Garbage in, garbage out, as they say.
You want to start a war in Iraq? Fine. Let's conjure up some "facts" to tell the President and then strongly urge him to send troops. President Bush said in an interview recently that he regrets the faulty intelligence that led him to go into Iraq in the first place. Whether he got that "intelligence" from the CIA or from the Israeli Mossad is not my point. Broadly speaking, knowledge is power, and so Intelligence organizations hold that portion of power, and it is being used to manipulate those they consider their subordinates--the Presidents.
Secondly, the Legislative branch is the division that is supposed to hold the purse strings of America. But it is now a slave to the big banks. "Too big to fail?" Don't worry. The Legislative branch can be counted on to shift trillions of dollars from the average Americans to the wealthy bankers by means of grants and loans that will never be paid off. As they say, money is power, and so the bankers who hold the money are a greater power than the Legislative branch, which presides over a huge debt to them. The debtor is servant to the lender.
Thirdly, the Judicial branch is the division that is supposed to make sure all legislation is constitutional. Where have they been for the last century?? Sorry, out to lunch. Meanwhile, they have been replaced by the "justice" of public opinion that is shaped by the Media to resemble a cross between a farce and a kangaroo.
The Justice Department has become just another branch of authority that operates under a higher power. The courts are the "muscle" of their new bosses and are expected to convict or release according to the signals given in the newspapers. The Media controls public opinion by it reveals and what it hides, so as to manipulate the general public in much the same way as the Intelligence organizations manipulate the Presidents. The Media thus has the power of public opinion, which it euphemistically refers to as "democracy in action."
And so the public is fed information and disinformation that is useful in bringing to pass whatever goal has been pre-planned for us. We all vote for the candidates that have been pre-selected, groomed, and financed, because we must all be given a "choice." We get to choose the lesser of two evils, or we get to choose between abortion and torture, immorality or war, sexual freedom or martial law. But in the end, we get both. With each change of party in the White House and Congress, one side or the other speeds up the pace of one agenda or another. But in the end it hardly matters.
Have you noticed that when one party is ruling, the worst things about their platforms are established quickly, while throwing us a few good things like bones to a hungry dog. Then, when we learn to despise what that party is doing, we get to switch parties for the next election. And the process begins all over again.
In other words, we are baited by good things into voting for someone. But there is always the down side, like a drug that always has its unavoidable negative side effects. When that "drug" brings us to the point of death, we then switch to a new drug--the other party--and we get some different negative side effects. Both side effects can kill us in different ways, but still we think we have no choice but to choose between those political drugs. We are, after all, a democracy and can choose which drug we prefer to kill us.
I think that as long as we vote for the lesser of two evils, rather than according to our conscience, this state of affairs could continue indefinitely until we see divine intervention. Most have been convinced that anyone who votes for a candidate outside of the two major parties is wasting their vote. So they vote for the lesser of two evils, instead of truly voting their conscience. For this reason, America does not like more than two political parties at a time. But it also means that the two main parties continue in their power-sharing deal, each ruling until their stench makes them intolerable to the voters. Then they switch, hoping that the other party has at least taken a shower in the past four or eight years.
Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. I hope so.
