God has called the New Gideon's Army to help bear the burden of intercession with those who have been called to intercede that the Gospel of the Kingdom might be preached to the world and that the Holy Spirit might be poured out upon all flesh.
The New Gideon's Army was first established in May of 2001, but it was not brought to public attention until June 2006. For those of you who are new readers and want to learn more of this, you may want to read my web log series from early June called "Intercession for America." The first online prayer campaign was held on June 15 and a follow-up prayer campaign on June 28. The more background you can learn of this, the more helpful it will be. But even without that background, you are all welcome to join with us without restriction, if you are led to do so.
The prayer campaign today is in two parts. First is the petition portion, followed by the declaration before God. Both are done in the Divine Court. The declaration is simply the words of a song written in 1977 by Richard Gillard called "The Servant Song."
You may pray the following as many times today as you wish, but once is sufficient. If you read this for the first time at a later date and still want to participate in it, you may do so by simply adding the words: "Father, I ask that you make my prayer retroactive to Dec. 18, 2006, that I may pray in unity with my brethren at that appointed time."
Father, we come before your Divine Court in the name of Jesus and under His blood. We have heard your call, for we have ears to hear. We come to present our bodies to you as living sacrifices for your glory. Your sharp sword, which is your Word, has pierced as far as the division of soul and spirit and has discerned and judged the thoughts and intents of our hearts.
We ask that you raise us up by the same power that raised up Jesus from the dead. Transform us into the New Wine that is to be poured out upon the earth as a drink offering to you, that all men may drink of the Spirit in us and be enlightened in the knowledge of Christ. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon all flesh through your Body, that all may come to know you as you truly are.
Thank-you, Father, for answering this petition.
(Speaking to your brethren who are called to intercede. . .)
Brother, let me be your servant, Let me be as Christ to you; Pray that I may have the grace To let you be my servant, too.
We are pilgrims on a journey, We are brothers on the road, We are here to help each other Walk the mile and bear the load.
I will hold the Christ-light for you In the night-time of your fear; I will hold my hand out to you, Speak the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping, When you laugh I'll laugh with you; I will share your joy and sorrow Till we've seen this journey through.
When we sing to God in heaven We shall find such harmony, Born of all we've known together Of Christ's love and agony.
Brother, let me be your servant, Let me be as Christ to you; Pray that I may have the grace To let you be my servant, too.
(from "The Servant Song" by Richard Gillard)
