I will be out of town Saturday, April 29, and will not be able to write a web log that day.
Meanwhile, the U.N. deadline was reached on April 28 for Iran to stop enriching uranium. Iran has consistently refused to do so, claiming that it is only for peaceful purposes (wink, wink). But at least that is more up front than the Israelis have been with their own nuclear program, which does not exist at all (wink, wink).
It seems that each nation is trying to outdo the other in hypocrisy. But that is what politics is all about. Moral values are different, with one set for governmental leaders and another more stringent set of morals for the commoners. Thus, government officials have a license to lie, but it is a crime to lie to a federal officer. It seems certain classes of people feel fully justified about lying for purposes of maintaining "security," that catch-word that justifies all immoral behavior.
Today, the Christian Science Monitor published an article with the headline: "Israel raises profile in Iran fray."
Amazing title. Don't they know that to be politically correct, it ought to read, "Iran forces Israel to raise profile in the fray"??? It's always the other guy's fault for making me hit him. Joe started it when he hit me back.
Anyway, the article says that Israel launched a spy satellite this week to spy on Iran. It is the "Eros-B spy satellite," and perhaps it is appropriately named. Eros is the Greek word for the lowest form of "love," (sensual love) from which we get our word "erotic." It is the kind of love that is selfish, arising out of personal need and desire, rather than the kind that seeks the best for others.
The article also says two things, which, when put together, show the hypocrisy in all of this. First, it says,
"Given the charged atmosphere in the region, many have questioned whether Israel, which maintains its own unofficial nuclear program, would make some kind of 'preemptive strike' on Iran."
Later, the article quotes Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mark Regev, saying,
"I call on the Western World to not stand silently in the face of the nations that are trying to acquire nuclear weapons and [who] preach the destruction of the State of Israel."
I suppose we are to understand by this that nuclear weapons are alright as long as one does not "preach the destruction of the State of Israel." Since the Israelis do not preach their own destruction, it makes them exempt from censure. You can read the whole article at:

On a related note, I see that "Holocaust Remembrance Day" fell on April 25 this year. Last year it fell on May 5. Anyway, April 25, 2006 is also the 20th anniversary of the nuclear accident at Chernobyl in the Ukraine, which affected millions of people and stimulated a huge production of thyroid medication by the pharmaceutical companies.
Actually, from what a highly placed source said, the world has no idea just how close we came to a nuclear war in 1986. With all of the hype about Reagan's "Star Wars technology" and the 572 nuclear missiles being placed in West Germany, it is said that Russia was very close to doing a preemptive strike of their own against the U.S. (This was justified by the same warped reasoning as the Israelis and President Bush use in their foreign policy decisions.) The Chernobyl disaster scuttled the plan, and their window of opportunity was lost.
What even high up officials do not know, however, is that the Lord sent someone as a tourist to pray in various locations in the Soviet Union in 1986. The last place to pray was at Chernobyl just before the disaster struck. This, I believe, is what stopped World War III, or at least postponed it, giving us time to prepare and repent. I know how foolish it sounds to many people to actually believe in Spirit-led prayer. But I am one of those foolish ones.
