The Canaanites were prophetic types representing all the nations that were under the curse of the law for sin. More specifically, they represented those who were usurping the Promised Land, that is, the Kingdom of God. The Canaanites, then, were types of the four beast empires which Daniel foresaw in Daniel 2 and 7. Because of the sin of Jerusalem, these beast empires were given authority over the earth—which included authority over the Kingdom of God.
For this reason, if we are to understand prophecy, we must compare Canaan to Mystery Babylon. Just as Joshua entered the Kingdom and displaced the Canaanites in his day, so also is Jesus-Yeshua displacing the Babylonians in our time. Joshua (or Hoshea) was of the tribe of Ephraim (Numbers 13:8)
When Jesus came the first time, He came of the tribe of Judah to fulfill the calling of the Lion which was to be covered with blood and to be “roused” from the dead (Genesis 49:9). His second coming, however, identifies Him with Joshua the Ephraimite, who leads us into the Kingdom.
Christ’s task (and ours) is to displace the world rulers of the beast systems in the earth. We are called to “reign with Him for a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6). We are called “to be a kingdom and priests to our God” and “will reign upon the earth” (Revelation 5:10).
Yet the Kingdom must be prepared by the work of Elijah and Elisha before the overcomers can reign. John came in the spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way for Christ’s first coming; the overcomers as a body came with the double portion of the spirit and power of Elijah, coming as Elisha to prepare the way for Christ’s second coming.
The mantle of Canaan was taken up by Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome.
The question is this: How long will it be until the overcomers have finished preparing the way? The answer, I believe, is bound up in the cycles of Cursed Time and Blessed Time. When Joshua brought judgment on the Canaanites in the year 2488, Canaan’s debt was paid. The curse of Noah had its effect. However, most of the Canaanites still failed to repent. Only the Gibeonites subjected themselves to Joshua’s authority and thereby became the servants of the Lord God of Shem (who was Melchizedek), as we read in Genesis 9:26, 27.
Seven Cycles of Cursed Time
Dating from the Jordan crossing in the year 2488 (or 1407 B.C.), the Cursed Time cycles continued for another 7 cycles, ending in the year 1492—the year that Columbus arrived in America. This was another crossing, one that was greater than the Jordan River, for he crossed the Atlantic. On the Creation Jubilee calendar, this was the year 5386.
The two parallel events occurred 2,898 years apart (7 x 414 years). Unfortunately, Columbus’ Atlantic crossing took place on Cursed Time dating back to the Jordan crossing. In other words, Cursed Time had not yet been overcome. It was not yet a Blessed Time event. History shows how the new arrivals conquered by physical swords (weaponry) instead of by the sword of the Spirit.
Hence, the death and destruction thereafter was similar to that which the Canaanites experienced—and for the same reason. While some may focus on the pagan nature of the Caribbean people and the Native Americans in general, the greater responsibility for this carnal manner of conquest rests fully on the Old Covenant outlook of the church. This is evident in the fact that they treated the native people much like the Israelites treated the Canaanites.
Both the Israelites and the church should have known better. Neither of them had a real grasp of the New Covenant and its method of conquest set forth in the Great Commission. In my view, the church had even less excuse than did the Israelites under Moses, for the church had a greater revelation of the truth than the Israelites did under Moses.
Nonetheless, in the larger scheme of things, after 7 cycles of Cursed Time, God began to resolve the problem over a long period of time.
Blessed Time for the Earth
It takes 76 years to cleanse a Cursed Time cycle and to bring the people to Blessed Time. (414 + 76 = 490) Normally, in the case of multiple cycles of 414 years, God simply adds 76 to the last one to take the Cursed ones into Blessed Time—assuming, of course, that they repent. But in this case, after 7 cycles of 414 years, God saw fit to add 76 years to each of the previous 414-year cycles.
The effect of this was that He turned 7 Cursed Time cycles into 7 Blessed Time cycles, so that the earth itself could be placed on Blessed Time in preparation for God’s Kingdom. Seven cycles of 76 years (532 years) brings us from 1492-2024. That is the year Blessed Time is brought into the earth. It is, I believe, the year that the curse upon Canaan will be fully overcome.
It took Joshua a full 7 years to give the tribes of Israel their inheritance in the land. The greater work has taken 7 x 490 years to accomplish this for the overcomers—the true Israelites. At the same time, not all believers will reign with Christ. Those who have remained in Passover or Pentecost will be citizens of the Kingdom, but not rulers. In my view, only New Covenant believers are eligible to rule His Kingdom. Those who rely on Old Covenant swords to obtain God’s Kingdom will need New Covenant believers to teach them the ways of God.
The 7 cleansing cycles are as follows:
1492-1568
1568-1644
1644-1720
1720-1796
1796-1872
1872-1948
1948-2024
It is noteworthy that the year 1948 is the year that the Israeli state was established. This event launched the final cleansing cycle leading to 2024. The big question, of course, is whether or not the Israeli state will repent and accept Jesus as the Messiah. It seems to me that they have until 2024 to make their final decision. Will they find their way into Blessed Time and thereby secure their place in the Kingdom? Will they serve the Lord God of Shem (as did the Gibeonites), or will they follow the example of the Canaanites who failed to repent?
Their decision (as a nation) will determine their place in history and in prophecy for the next thousand years.
Another Cursed Time Cycle
Joshua led Israel across the Jordan in the Spring of 2488 on the tenth day of the first month (Joshua 4:19).
Forty-two years later, they were taken captive in the year 2530 by Cushan-rishathaim, king of Mesopotamia (Judges 3:8). His name means “Twice-wicked Cushan.” I doubt that his own people called him by this name. This was his Israelite name.
This captivity ended 8 years later when God raised up Othniel, who was Israel’s first Judge. He delivered Israel 50 years after the Jordan crossing, and this was their first Jubilee (the year 2538).
This Jubilee occurred 490 years after the birth of Isaac in 2048. The birth of Isaac was the start of the 400 years in which Abraham’s seed (Isaac) would be a stranger in a land that was not his (Genesis 15:13 KJV). The 400 years ended with the Exodus, according to the prophecy. Ninety years later, Israel was delivered in their first year of Jubilee—2538.
We know that Mesopotamia, “the land between two rivers,” was an older name for Babylon. Hence, Israel’s first captivity to the king of Mesopotamia established a pattern for a later captivity after Babylon became an empire. It was an 8-year captivity, and this proved to be a type and shadow of a much longer cycle of 8 x 414 years.
The captivity began in 2530, and 8 x 414 years later brings us to the year 5842, which we know as -1948. We see, then, that the Israeli state was established on Cursed Time, beginning with Israel’s first captivity to the king of Mesopotamia/Babylon.
However, we then see a 76-year cycle extending to 2024. It overlays the 7th cycle of 76 dating back to 1492, as I have already shown.
So once again, we must ask whether or not the Israeli state will repent and turn to Jesus Christ by the year 2024. As I interpret these numbers, the Israeli state has been given a final grace period that will end in 2024. If they do not repent, then divine judgment will fall upon them when Blessed Time comes to the earth as a whole.
