It appears that the long US war against Syria is about to come to an end.
Recall that General Wesley Clark told us years ago that the word in the Pentagon was that the US was going to overthrow seven countries in five years. This was the origin of the Arab Spring in 2011. This US war overthrew a few countries before getting bogged down in Syria.
The war against Syria ultimately failed because Russia backed the Syrian government from its big military base in Syria. Then in 2015 Russia began bombing ISIS, which was a US creation and ally, forcing Trump to jump in and pretend that the US was the one destroying ISIS. Nonetheless, the US continued to use troops to steal oil from Syrian oilfields with the help of Turkey.
Now, finally, Turkey is making peace with Syria through Russian mediation. No doubt this will make US troops vulnerable and will force the US to remove them from Syria altogether, ending the long Arab Spring. The Pentagon has only partially succeeded in the plan that General Clark talked about.
