The announced death of Supreme Court member, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, on September 18, 2020 has thrown America into a new crisis. More leftists are now in a frenzy, calling for war and advocating that people kill various government officials. It seems to me that this could well make the sedition official, giving the president some extraordinary rights in dealing with it.
Nobody likes it when their ideological opponents are in power, but we have not seen this type of violent opposition since the 1860's. The Democrats are being whipped into a frenzy. It was bad enough when their paramilitary arm (Antifa) began killing people on the streets and burning down businesses in cities where they knew they were given the green light to do so (i.e. by Democrat mayors and governors). They are showing that they are not true Democrats, because they do not believe in Democracy when it disagrees with them.
But the voters spoke in the 2016 election, and Trump is much stronger politically in 2020 in spite of the fake polls. The same fake polls that said Hillary had a 98% chance of winning in 2016 are again trying to tell us that Joe Biden is 10 points ahead of Trump. Even though Biden can hardly gather 6 people, while Trump regularly gathers 25,000. (Because of restrictions, Trump no longer holds "rallys." He now calls them "peaceful protests.")
Any president has the constitutional right to appoint replacements when Supreme Court seats are vacated. It does not matter if it is an election year. There have been 29 appointments to the Supreme Court in election years--including one when Obama was president. So now Trump is saying that he will appoint a replacement next week and that it will be a woman. I have believed for years that Ginsburg's replacement would be Amy Barrett, as she is outspokenly pro-life (or anti-abortion).
There is little doubt that this appointment will be the most important long-term decision that Trump could make.
