The mayor of Seattle was fine with the riots until the rioters came to her house. Then she suddenly called for an end to violence.

The mayor of Chicago was fine with the “peaceful protests” until they threatened her house. Then suddenly she called it “violence” and blocked the protests on her block.
Now the mayor of Portland has had to move out after his condo was ransacked by the same peaceful protesters that he has allowed to rule his city.

On September 17, they intend to begin a 50-day siege of the White House in Washington until the election. I think he will have a policy that is quite different from the Democrat mayors.
Soros’ tactic worked in Syria, where his “peaceful protesters” resulted in a military defense. This allowed the Western media to blame President Assad and gave the Obama administration the justification to create ISIS to try to overthrow him. I am quite sure Trump knows this tactic well, and this why he has left it to each city to defend its own streets. He knows that these riots are just Soros' traps and that the rioters are the "cannon fodder" whose lives are on the line.
If these mayors ask for federal help, they would find it difficult to blame him for putting down the riots.
