Trump and Barr raise the question of secularism

If you watched any of Trump’s recent speeches, you may have noticed that he made reference to the Declaration of Independence, which states that all rights come from God (not from the state). It appears that he is now hitting the root political issue, and I have not heard any president in my lifetime speak of these things.

It looks like the president chose William Barr partly because of his similar views. Here is a short 45-second video where he says it in his own words:

"This is not decay. This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia in an unremitting assault on religion & traditional values."

His view is not new. In 1995 he wrote an essay entitled, Legal Issues in a New Political Order, where he wrote:

“Traditional Judeo-Christian doctrine maintains that there is a transcendent moral order with objective standards of right and wrong that exists independent of man’s will… This transcendent order flows from God’s eternal law… the divine will by which the whole of creation is ordered.”

We are being given the unprecedented opportunity to choose between secularism, where men make laws and change them at their whims, or reaffirming the Declaration of Independence, which made America “one nation under God.”
