In decades past, the Communists and Socialists fought hard to win the right to hold views that were unamerican and unpopular. They won those rights, and now that their views are mainstream (at least in the big cities), they want to deny anyone else the same rights.
It shows that they were really not interested in equal rights. They only used the principle to their advantage, and once they came into a position of power, they worked to deny others the same rights.
So now Miss Nevada has been denied her crown for holding conservative political views.
