The spying scandal has taken a new twist.
I have known for at least 20 years how the US government spies on American citizens legally. They were doing it long before the so-called Patriot Act in 2001.
The US intelligence agencies simply offshore their spying activities. They ask the British intelligence agencies to spy on American citizens, and in return, we spy on British citizens on their behalf. That way, it is “legal.” No one spies on their own people.
A letter has now surfaced, where the British spy agency is asking Prime Minister, Theresa May, for permission to spy on President Trump in November 2016, shortly after the election. They called it “Operation Fullsome.” The letter says that the US president (Obama) had requested it. It also says that US State Department official, Susan Rice, had requested a 90-day extension of this spying activity, in order to continue spying on Trump even after his election.
Presumably, this was to try to prevent Trump from actually taking office in January 2017.
