The massacre in at the gay nightclub in Orlando on the evening of June 11 has overshadowed the assassination of Christina Victoria Grimmie a day earlier on June 10, 2016. She was shot and killed by Kevin James Loibl as she signed autographs after her concert in the same city.
A 27-year-old man wielding two handguns shot former "The Voice" contestant Christina Grimmie after a Friday night concert in Florida, and then fatally shot himself, police said Saturday.
Grimmie, 22, died from her injuries from the shooting, which happened around 10:30 p.m. ET at The Plaza Live in Orlando. The singer had opened for the band Before You Exit and was meeting fans and signing autographs a half hour after the concert ended when she was shot.
Christina was a strong Christian. She was named after Christ, and her middle name indicates “Victory.” A few weeks earlier she posted a U-Tube recording of her favorite song, “In Christ Alone,” which obviously set forth her belief that her victory was in Christ alone, whether Christ should come, or take her home. He chose to take her home.
In retrospect, it seems that the song was prophetic. She sang it at Easter (wave-sheaf offering/Christ’s resurrection day), and she was killed just before Pentecost. She was a witness ("martyr") for Christ, bearing the testimony of truth to those she met. Her favorite song shows that she knew that Victory was secured by Christ's death on the cross. She understood that many others in the body of Christ would also be killed as extensions of Christ.
So I give her tribute along with the faithful martyrs of the past. May she be the last.
