Here is an interesting perspective from Russia as the author looks at how the Communists a century ago imposed gun control on the Russian people.
This will probably come as a shock to most of my Western readers, but at one point Russia was one of the most heavily armed societies on earth. This was, of course, when we were free under the Tsar....
Various [invading] armies. . . found that holding Russian lands was much much harder than taking them, and taking was no easy walk in the park but a blood bath all its own. In holding, one faced an extremely well armed and aggressive population hell-bent on exterminating or driving out the aggression....
For those of us fighting for our traditional rights, the US 2nd amendment is a rare light in an ever darkening room. Governments will use the excuse of trying to protect the people from maniacs and crime, but are in reality, it is the beaurocrats protecting their power and position. In all cases where guns are banned, gun crime continues and often increases.
When a govenment loses the trust and support of the populace, it finds it must use force to rule the people. In such a case, the first order of business is to disarm the people. Many of our government leaders have decided that the best way to do this is to make the people WANT disarmament, so they create false flag operations to make it look like gun control is the best way to control crime.
Our founding fathers believed that the people themselves were the real government, and that those who were elected as leaders were only the servants of the people. But the only way to maintain people-power was to keep the people armed. Real political power lies with those who have the weapons to enforce their will when necessary. So they passed the 2nd amendment to the Constitution giving the people the right to bear arms, and conversely called for state militias but no standing federal army except in time of war.
Obviously, they knew their history and understood that real power lies with those who are carrying the weapons.
In my view, of course, there is a higher power than mere weapons of war, because the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but are mighty (as Paul says). When we lose our way and kick God from His rightful place on the throne over the nations, we embark upon a path of destruction, and no amount of weapons will prevent this disaster from happening. Hence, the first thing that we the people must demand is for God (Jesus Christ) to be reinstated as our King. Then we must acknowledge His Laws, or else any recognition of God would be mere hypocrisy.
Until the people do this, we will continue to slide into the slavery of the Babylonian system that took over America a century ago. Russia was not the only nation conquered in the early 1900's. While everyone was focused upon the so-called "Russian Revolution," the bankers were quietly taking control of America at the same time.
The solution is not guns, but repentance. However, gun control is assured if we do not repent, because when only the government has guns, their power grab will be complete. Perhaps God intends that we should become utter slaves before things turn around. I do not know. It depends on when the people repent. But I can guarantee that things will only get worse and worse until the people repent.
Even so, repentance cannot come apart from a move of the Holy Spirit. This is why we work and pray toward that end. Though we to call for repentance, we know that the people will not repent on their own initiative. That is why we appeal to God, rather than to man. I have no faith in man's ability to repent, but I know that "the kindness of God leads you to repentance" (Romans 2:4).
When the Newtown school massacre occurred a few weeks ago, the calls again went from the government and their agents in the press for more gun control. That, in turn, triggered a massive, nation-wide gun-buying spree. Stores sold as many guns in 3 days as they normally would sell in 3 years. In other words, the tactic backfired on them.
A few days later, on December 17, a shooter entered a restaurant and shot someone, then went to a nearby theater to do the same. However, an off-duty sheriff's deputy was on security there, and he shot the shooter, preventing him from duplicating the Colorado theater scene. I hear the city of San Antonio is giving him a medal. Fortunately for the potential victims, someone other than the criminal had a gun when it was needed to protect the people.

This was reported briefly on the news, but government officials gave it the silent treatment, because it did not support their agenda. They are trying hard to convince the people that only the government should be armed. The historical question is this: Given past history, should the people trust their governments with absolute power?
