Along with other members of their band, the women staged a flashmob-style performance of their song close to the altar in the cathedral on 21 February.
Their brief, obscenity-laced performance, which implored the Virgin Mary to "throw Putin out", enraged the Orthodox Church - its leader Patriarch Kirill said it amounted to blasphemy.
The western media is in full support of the "obscenity-laced performance" in a Moscow church. They criticize the two-year sentence as being "disproportionate." I agree. Any prison sentence is a violation of biblical law and is "cruel and unusual punishment." The judgment should have been swift and completed in a few minutes. If they had done this in a nation where the law of God is in force, they would have been given about a dozen lashes with a good whip and sent home to recover on their own nickle, instead of costing the taxpayers $100,000 per year per offender.
If these girls had sung protest songs at one of their concerts, I would support their right to do so. But they have no right to desecrate a church or any private property with their so-called protests. Their rights end where my nose begins.
What if they had done this in a synagogue? The media would have been horrified and outraged. What would an Israeli court have done if anyone had protested like this in front of the Wailing Wall?
What if they had done this in a mosque? The girls would have been dragged into the street and stoned immediately. The media would have expressed subdued shock on the back page.
What about a church? Oh, that's alright. Hooliganism--and even "Blasphemy" is alright as long it undermines any branch of Christianity. The media thinks it is an expression of freedom. Unless, of course, such protests undermine the power of the big banks.
All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others.
And the church would have been reprimanded for not manifesting Christ to them, which was the underlying cause in the first place.
