LONDON — What looks to be the worst U.S. drought in a quarter of a century has given rise to an old-fashioned commodity rally on world markets, with key grain prices hitting highs which caused food crises in vulnerable parts of the globe last time around....
With so much of the world putting faith in a record U.S. corn crop, it is little wonder that prices have surged around 40 percent in the past three weeks as relentless dry weather melted yield expectations for cereals. Soybeans are at record highs, while wheat is not far behind....
Now, corn futures contracts backed by the 2012 harvest are above $7 a bushel and climbing fast.
COMMENT:
On June 21, 2009, I met with a group in Sacramento. Three of us were led to unite spiritually, representing the law, prophets, and psalms, in order to gain strength in the work that I was doing at the time.
The word of the Lord at that time told us in part that this was an Elijah phase, and so we saw that it was a 3-1/2 year work from June 21, 2009 to Dec. 21, 2012.
That was my first indication that perhaps the Mayan calendar date of Dec. 21, 2012 might have some actual significance in the sight of God. But this also implied that we might see a drought during this time. Obviously, Amos 8:11 prophesied of a famine of hearing the word of God, but we wondered if we might also see an actual drought.
It appears that 2012 is the year of drought. Even if we get rain now, much of the corn crop has been ruined already in the midwest and will not recover. Those farmers who have stored corn and wheat will do well, because they will get high prices when they sell.
A week ago we prayed that God would supply rain to those who are obedient to Him. It does not seem to me that this drought is meant to judge them. But Elijah's drought was meant to turn the hearts of the people back to God, so this is not something that can pray against.
