You guessed it. 17 African lions were being shot to death.
Strange. But maybe not so strange.
Gadaffi openly called upon the African nations to dump the US dollar in payment of oil. He intended to demand payment in gold only when selling Libyan oil. Saddam Hussein of Iraq had a slightly different idea back in the late 80's. He wanted to be paid only in euros, instead of the dollar. That was enough to trick him into invading Kuwait and then declaring war on Iraq.
