It appears that on August 14, 1997 a group of Christians did engage in spiritual warfare at the location of the "Pact with the Devil." It was under a tree sacred to Voodoo practitioners. So perhaps in light of this, the quake may likely represent a backlash of revenge in spiritual warfare. In other words, the battle was won in 1997, but the overall war continues.
