I have mentioned previously that we will probably be seeing a lot of bankruptcies among mega-churches in the next year or two. Here is an article from the Associated Press about Oral Roberts University:
Associated Press
Published: January 14, 2009TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Dozens of employees at Oral Roberts University have started receiving word that they’re being laid off.
The Christian school found itself more than $50 million in debt in 2007. It announced last November it would lay off about 100 employees, roughly 10 percent of the university’s work force. Yesterday’s final tally includes 53 employees and the elimination of 40 more unfilled positions.
The November layoff announcement came days after the school completed a separation agreement with former president Richard Roberts, who stepped down in late 2007 amid allegations he misspent school funds to live in luxury.
Under the settlement, ORU will pay Roberts more than $447,000.
I suppose they expect us to pray for the multi-millionaire evangelists, so that they can continue their lavish life style while their institutions go broke. Well, perhaps God is stepping in to turn them into hundredaires.
