If this is true, it is truly scary how fast we are losing any remaining freedom of speech or freedom of opinion in this country. They are saying that President Bush has issued a new Executive Order that allows the government to seize your property if you do anything that the government employees might think is hindering the reconstruction of Iraq.
So if someone holds up a sign saying, "Get US out of Iraq," would that qualify as a hindrance to Iraq's reconstruction?
This Executive Order was issued on July 17, 2007. In the President's justification of this new Order, he speaks of it being in connection with a few others that he made in 2003 and 2004. He also tells us that they were to deal with "national emergency" that was declared in 2003. I wonder if we are already under martial law, and I wonder if Congress yet realizes this. People can use the term "national emergency" casually, of course, but when it is used in law or government, they really do mean it. National Emergency means that they assume the right to suspend the Constitution or whatever parts of it they choose.
The Executive Order reads: "I issued this order to take additional steps with respect to the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13303 of May 22, 2003, and expanded in Executive Order 13315 of August 28, 2003, and relied upon for additional steps taken in Executive Order 13350 of July 29, 2004, and Executive Order 13364 of November 29, 2004."
