Here is a very important article about the abuse of prisoners, not only at Guantanamo, but other U.S. prisons around the world.
At the heart of the issue is not so much the torture (or "abuse") of "detainees," but rather whether people should be imprisoned on the least SUSPICION of guilt. The article itself says that perhaps up to 90 percent of those detained were later found innocent and released.
But not before they had spent months in prison. They were released without so much as an apology or compensation.
If those innocent people were not insurgents before, they are certainly hostile now, thanks to the detention and the abuse. We seem to be making enemies faster than we can kill them.
In my view, this policy is only one step away from legalizing the same upon American citizens. If we don't stop it at this point, it will not be long before Christians who believe the Bible will be "detained," which means being imprisoned in a secret prison without charge and abused at the whim of the prison officials.
It seems to me that Christians should stop supporting this kind of unchristian activity and be the first to force the President to stop this behavior immediately.
